28 Feb, 2009.
SIZE Can Matter, the only dual Group 1 winner in 2008 of the four finalists, was tonight named the Queensland greyhound of the year.
The award was made at a gala function at the Sofitel tonight before a crowd of 270.
The son of Elite State-Queen Size toppled an elite group of finalists that also included Knocka Norris, Made To Size and Queen Lauryn.
Julie Edmondson owns the dog who was trained during the year by her partner Reg Kay as well as Jack Irwin.
Size Can Matter landed the group 1 Perth Cup and the Group 1 Platinum Paws in NZ, as well as the Group 2 Qld Derby.
He was also Group 1 placed twice.
"This is something you dream about," said Kay after the announcement.
"He was the slowest of the four dogs we raced so successfully all year, but he was a professional race dog and that's what matters."
Size Can Matter started 34 times during the year for 17 wins and nine placings.
